Your Top Benefit Questions
Benefits are a much appreciated part of staff compensation at GSS. To simplify accessing and using benefits, check out these quick answers to the most common questions that GSS staff ask of Lisa Macdonald, our Benefits, Payroll, and People Experience Manager.
My Personal Spending Account (PSA): “How much is it? How does it work? Where do I send my claim?”
Go to the Human Resources Manual on Bamboo and review the ‘Personal Spending Account Claim Processing’ procedure (p. 95) for information on what the plan covers, how to access it, and how to get reimbursed. Most questions will be answered but do follow up with Lisa for any unique questions. (Also, watch for the HR Information Sessions that Lisa holds each year – the PSA will be covered in detail.)
My Health Spending Account (HSA): “What do I have left? What can I claim? What if I’m having trouble with a claim?”
Because your HSA account is private information, Lisa won’t have access to your account so the best way to get HSA information is by calling Group Health or using the app or website (call 1.833.344.6944 or go to https://portal.mygrouphealth.ca/login). If you have an issue with a claim and Group Health isn’t responding, then follow up with Lisa to have the claim escalated.
“How do I make changes to my information on Group Health and Dayforce?”
You can update personal information like phone numbers and emails on the Group Health and Dayforce sites. BUT make sure and let Lisa/Human Resources know about the change so your personal information on other human resources-related systems can be updated too. That prevents delays and complications with processes like Short Term Disability or getting important documents mailed to you.
To make changes to Group Health coverage like changes in dependents, beneficiaries, or coverage - call Lisa for a change form. Explain the type of change so Lisa can alert you to key questions to answer on the form so it’s processed as simply and quickly as possible.
How can I get full information on pay statements and T-4s from Dayforce?
To get full information, go to the Dayforce website instead of the Dayforce mobile app. The app is convenient, but it’s limited. For example, T-4s aren’t available on the mobile app but they are on the website. (Staff with a Canada Revenue Agency account can also get their T-4s online at that account.)
And finally, a really popular question “What’s covered under our benefits?”
Attached is the Benefits Summary that Lisa gives to new staff.
For full benefits information go through your Group Health account: Log into the website or mobile app > ‘Coverage’ tab > ‘Benefit Book’.
With specific questions, go to the Group Health app or website, i.e., questions like whether a specific drug is covered, how much coverage is left for massages, etc.
Your health and wellbeing are important and the GSS benefits are there to reinforce that support for you and your family. Take a few minutes to learn about your coverage to maximize those benefits as simply and effectively as possible.
