Acknowledging Our Special Funders

We do important work for our clients and the community. Our key funders, the Government of Alberta, Homeward Trust, and Alberta Health Services, make that work possible. But did you know that multiple other funders of all sizes also play a big role in making our services possible?

Typically, those other funders are community members committed to making life better for others. They can help us meet important basic client and program needs. For example, meals are an important part of service to Detox clients, and the new MSD facility now has a dazzling commercial kitchen. Did you know that Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) and the Stollery Charitable Foundation (SCF) grants helped purchase equipment for the kitchen? The ECF is a major charitable organization that connects donors with local causes and distributes over $30 million every year so it makes a big difference in the community and certainly made a big difference for us. The Stollery Charitable Foundation is a private family foundation established in 1994 by a couple who wanted to give back to the communities that helped them succeed. Their mandate is to improve the health and vitality of local communities and to build the capacity of agencies just like ours.

Individual community members also work together to fund service agencies. The equipment at the new nursing and healthcare station at the MSD was acquired with a grant from Edmonton Civic Employees Charitable Assistance Fund (ECECAF). That fund is made up from voluntary salary contributions of over 11,000 members from nine different unions and associations in the Edmonton area. Some donors are repeat, longer term contributors like the REALTORS Community Foundation who have supported GSS programs over the past three years. Since 1986, member realtors have been making a positive difference in the communities where they live and work.

Those were a few examples of the many generous donors who collectively add important resources to our agency in so many ways. Below is a list of donors from the past three years:

  • Alberta Treasury Branch (ATB)

  • BELL Let’s Talk Community Fund

  • City of Edmonton Community Safety and Wellbeing (CSWB) Program

  • Edmonton Civic Employees Charitable Assistance Fund (ECECAF)

  • Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF)

  • Edmonton O-day'min Primary Care Network

  • Mint Pharmacy

  • Pelican Automotive & Safety Supply Ltd

  • Qualico Properties

  • REALTORS Community Foundation

  • Saint Lazarus Canada

  • Stollery Charitable Foundation (SCF)

As we enter the holiday season, the George Spady Society is proud to express our gratitude to them for helping enhance our work within the community.
