George Spady Society Supports the Truth and Reconciliation Commission:
Calls to Action
Overview
Honoring the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action is essential to our work at the George Spady Society. These Calls to Action acknowledge the harms caused by colonialism and provide a framework for meaningful reconciliation. As a nonprofit, we play a key role in fostering education, advocacy, and community connection, ensuring that Indigenous rights, histories, and perspectives are respected and integrated into our practices.
We understand that reconciliation is an ongoing journey. While we may make mistakes, we remain committed to learning, improving, and supporting Indigenous staff and program participants with respect, accountability, and cultural humility.
Our Commitment
The George Spady Society advances the TRC’s Calls to Action by embedding Indigenous rights, cultural safety, and reconciliation principles across all programs. With many of our participants identifying as Indigenous, we prioritize services that honor identity, promote healing, and address the impacts of colonialism.
Our efforts include partnering with Indigenous‑led agencies, supporting family connection, and ensuring culturally grounded approaches in service delivery. Staff receive continuous education on Indigenous histories, systemic inequities, and community strengths through cultural training, land‑based learning, ceremonies, storytelling, and monthly Cree language modules.
Across all areas of the TRC, we commit to reconciliation in action—centering Indigenous voices, respecting cultural knowledge, and working toward equitable access to services that support healing, justice, and the restoration of Indigenous rights.
