GSS Finances - a Deeper Look

Did you know we now have a Financial Analyst on staff?…

Now we do, and that’s a real sign of how the George Spady Society programs and systems are growing. Farhat Zannat joined us in June and brings an important financial skill set to the agency. Behind that skill set is a strong education and work background with an international perspective.

Born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Farhat completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting at the University of Dhaka. Then she went on to achieve a Certified Public Accounting (CPA) designation from Australia. That intensive program involved a combination of studying remotely and then completing her studies onsite in Sydney. Despite enjoying Sydney, which Farhat describes as “a dynamic, lovely, vibrant international culture”, Canada was more affordable, so she moved to Saskatoon a year ago where she has family then to Edmonton to join the George Spady Society.

Farhat has worked in finance for over a decade in different sectors. Her early experience in a nonprofit organization made a lasting impression. Working in an organization with a bigger purpose than profit was a positive experience that helped with her decision to work at the GSS.

In the role of Financial Analyst, Farhat will assist with regular accounting work and preparing internal and external monthly and quarterly financial reports. She will ALSO support the new Rental Assistance Program financial reporting that Homeward Trust used to do and is now an agency responsibility.

In addition, though, Farhat will be looking for opportunities to enhance or improve financial processes. The complexity of our budgets, financial reporting and data continue to increase. Once knowledgeable about agency budgets and contracts, she looks forward to supporting deeper analysis of financial data to, ideally, provide insights and recommendations for management decisions. We welcome Farhat with her specialized skills and experience to this important new role at the George Spady Society.
