Reinforcing Inclusion at GSS

the george spady society is proud to announce…

the formation of our new Indigenous & Anti-Racism Advisory Committee. A cross-section of voices from across our programs, including frontline staff, cultural support, and leadership, will ensure shared ownership of this important work. This important milestone is a commitment to ensuring GSS is a culturally safe, inclusive, and equitable organization.

This Committee will guide efforts to identify and address any systemic racism, foster Indigenous cultural safety. Our goal is to ensure that our services and workplace practices are responsive to the diverse identities of both our clients and staff.

From reviewing policies and procedures to supporting culturally responsive service delivery, the Committee will help identify barriers, promote accountability, and uphold the values of dignity, compassion, and fairness that define our work. A key focus will be on meaningful education and ongoing learning, grounded in the principles of cultural humility and truth and reconciliation.

Recommendations from the Committee’s first meeting include enhancing cultural awareness at all staff gatherings, creating safe spaces for dialogue, and launching a cultural survey to better understand lived experiences in the organization. Together, we are building a future where every person, regardless of background, is respected, supported, and empowered to thrive.
