Training Conference 2026 Preview

Something to look forward to: the annual GSS staff training conference is in person this year!  Mark your calendars for Thursday, February the 26th. Planning is still in process but here’s a quick preview of the session topics.

First there will be a welcome opportunity to spend time, in person, with one of our favorite presenters, Dr Sekandi. The conference will open with Dr Sekandi leading a session designed to explore intercultural awareness and communication.

The morning will wrap up with a session on something we’ve all been hearing more and more about over the past year—recovery capital. The Training Conference Committee is coordinating a team of internal and external resource people to explore this topic from different angles relevant to our workplace.

The afternoon will open with an opportunity to learn more about the Indigenous culture and take part in an activity that will help us connect to that culture and each other. The last session of the day will explore neurodiversity.

When attendees at last year’s training conference were asked about future conference topics, ‘neurodiversity’ was one of the most frequent suggestions. The session will focus on ‘neurodiversity on the job’ or how neurodiversity on teams can affect perceptions and interactions. Of course, learnings will also be relevant to client interactions.

More conference details will be coming out in the New Year, but this will be a special opportunity join GSS co-workers for a day of shared learning and connecting.  See you there!
